Gail's "New" Sewing Machine

Gail's "New" Sewing Machine, originally uploaded by knittergail.

I bought this 1960s Singer 328k sewing machine off ebay. After being serviced, it sews like a dream. The only problem is that nothing on it is automatic, and I keep threading it wrong.

My newest problem is that my spools of mettler thread "bounce" on the spool pin, screwing with my tension. If I lightly hold the spool down, it sews perfectly. How evil is that?

try putting a quarter on the top of the spool with double sticky tape. the weight might help.

I'm also thinking I still don't have it threaded correctly. I don't think I managed to get the thread into the tension disks, but I can't see how you would, following the manual. It always pops back out.

ah ha! I totally didn't have it threaded correctly. I didn't have the thread around the tension disks. Now I can't wait to go home and try it.

328k
I have the same sewing machine in excellent condition. Just got it out today and was wondering what you paid? I want to sell mine. My grandmother passed away and no one else has any use for it.

Re: 328k
I paid 75 on ebay - however, it didn't include the box of accessories, which will be the feet and the extra disks. If you have that, you can probably charge more. I'd check out craigslist first, and see what people are charging. You can also go to a local sewing machine store and see what they say. they are excellent machines, so there is still some demand for them.
